The Hamilton Pilot Training System (HPTS), is a flight and ground training system to learn to fly (and instruct in) light sport aircraft including fixed-wing aircraft (airplanes), weight-shift control trikes (microlights), and powered parachutes (PPC) to become Sport and Private Pilots and Sport Pilot Certified Flight Instructors (CFIS).
This pilot training system is designed to provide a comprehensive flight training and/or ground school program with three options for schools and students:
• Comprehensive flight training and ground school fast track or typical pilot license training program
• Classic ground school self directed and/ or classroom utilizing new technologies
• New virtual flight training with the flight simulator to supplement a FAA pilot training pilot license or mirror FAA pilot training for a virtual aviator.
In the typical “Comprehensive Flight training and Ground School Training Program”, the instructor would progress through the training syllabus flight and ground lessons flight training and ground school together.
Pilot applicents using classic “self-directed and /or classroom option” simply follow the flight and ground lesson plan assignments in order. When you meet with a flight instructor, you will have the background to progress quickly and efficiently through their flight training and have most of your classical ground school completed. This is an efficient method for those who are constrained with time or economics.
The new “virtual flight flying” uses the flight simulator to learn flight training as a supplement to enhance knowledge for an actual sport pilot or private pilot license/certificate learning in a real airplane or a virtual aviator perusing the same aeronautical knowledge and flight skills required to pass the FAA knowledge test and checkride.
In addition to the Sport Pilot Training, this system provides Private Pilot license by obtaining a Sport Pilot license first or start training as a sport pilot but deciding to obtain additional training for Private Pilot. This system also provides a Sport or Private pilot training for a Certificated Flight Instructor license/certificate.

- Sport Pilot Certified Flight Instructors use it to instruct their Sport Pilot and Sport Pilot Certified Flight Instructor (CFIS) applicants.
- Sport Pilot and Sport Pilot Certified Flight Instructor (CFIS) applicants use the system with an Instructor and/or as a self directed home study course.
The training system, developed by Sport Pilot industry leader, Paul Hamilton, CFI, DPE (PE, SPE, SPIE) uses a building block approach that optimizes training time in becoming a safe and confident pilot, while balancing the enthusiasm and passion for flight.
